Summer has arrived in Copenhagen this weekend and we are all heading out for ice creams and other treats in the summer night.

Election coming up
The election for the European Parlament is coming up on June 7. Sadly however, the election doesn't get much attention in the media. But still posters are seen around the city.

Dead swan
This is truly a sad story. This swan is dead. And as you may see from the photo its death has not been caused by natural reasons. Bridges are crossing the lakes in Copenhagen and above these bridges are electricity cables. Even though they have been marked with very visible flags, it still happens that birds hit them by accident. That is what happened for this swan. It flew straight in to the cable, and crashed to the ground... dead! Very sad.
Luckily it wasn't the mum or dad from the little swan family I saw the other day. I have checked. They are doing fine :)

The Ugly Duckling?
This little swan family is having a great time I think. One of the parents is looking out for dangers, while the other one is searching for food at the bottom of the lake. Hopefully these small 'ugly ducklings' won't share their destiny with the ducklings I saw a couple of weeks ago.

Copenhagen Marathon 2009
It was raining yesterday. But more than 10.000 people didn't care at all. They were sweating, fighting and running through this year's Copenhagen Marathon. I am impressed!

7 Eleven
They are here as well. All the multinational brands - including 7 Eleven. But 3x34 is Danish, though.

Summer nights
One of the best things about living up north is that you in the middle of May at 9.29 pm can take a picture like this using just natural light (and no tripod). And is it not even mid-summer yet.

The wall
This is not a big wall seperating the city, as they have been seen in other cities in history... It is just an elevated railtrack.

Window shopping
This must be the definition of window shopping. But don't just look - buy something as well. We all have to contribute to GDP these days...

Rolling hot dog stand
This is probably not the best photo ever, but the motive is so much Copenhagen. The owner of this little hot dog stand on his way home after another day of selling great hot dogs.

Neon at night
A nightview across the lakes towards Nørrebro. The advertisements in neon lights are very old and preserved, meaning that they cannot be removed. I guess that is something most advertisers would like. I like them as well and they are beautiful.

Pisserenden
'Pisserenden' basically means a place where you can go for a pee... But it's also an area of the inner city, where you can find all sorts of shops, cafes and bars. I think you could call it a Bohemian quarter. Some people prefer to call it the Latin Quarter. I like 'Pisserenden' better.

Democracy II
Just a small follow-up on yesterday's post . This fellow is enjoying a moment of relaxation and a joint without the risk of being patronized by the police.

Democracy
This is the definition of Danish democracy... and our liberal society in general I think. The sign says: 'Stop the gang war - legalize marijuana'. And the good thing is that the police is controlling the traffic and following them, while the demonstrators are walking down Nørrebrogade and smoking some weed :)
By the way - the gang war is a war between some gangs here in Copenhagen that has be going on for a while now. They have a tendency of shooting after each other... But don't worry. Our city is a very safe place to hang out.

Up in the sky
The city of Copenhagen as you see it when arriving or leaving. If you look carefully you can also see the windmills in the water in the background of the picture. Maybe they can offset the carbon emission connected to the capturing of this photo...

Nature takes its toll
Four days ago I had the great pleasure of seeing this year's first ducklings in Peblingesø. 10 of them! But when I went there yesterday to take a picture only four were left... and the mum dead. Very sad! Ducklings are such cute little creatures and it is almost unbearable that these four are left all by themselves. Let's hope another duck-mum will adopt them.

Look!
Wonder what this little girl is looking for? Maybe she is checking whether her flight is leaving on time. We will never now, but at least we are at Copenhagen Airport (or Kastrup Airport) and the statues you see leaning towards the railing ensure that we all stay calm when messing around with the liquid rules in the security control.
